Photovoice Workshop: Photography for Social Change

Are you a leader in the social sector who has a story to tell about your program's successes and needs? Do you want a powerful, creative way to tell that story that's different from the usual standard reports? This is for you! You'll walk away with a complete Photovoice project that

  1. captures the impact of what you do

  2. identifies what you need to keep building that impact, and

  3. provides a venue to share your findings with invited decision-makers, stakeholders, and community members.

Photovoice is a participatory action research method that uses photography to document lived realities, make experiences visible, and spark meaningful community dialogue. Over 12 sessions, participants will learn to combine visual storytelling with grassroots social advocacy.

No advanced photography experience or high-end equipment is required for this course. A smartphone camera or a basic digital camera is perfectly sufficient to create a powerful story.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply basic techniques to interpret photographs and create visual narratives.

  • Understand the historical role of photography in creating social change.
