The impetus for creating New Mexico Thrives was a keen desire to resolve the contradiction of seeing the great work done by nonprofits and the reports indicating that New Mexico is still at or near the bottom. It is based on the belief that New Mexico does not have to be at the bottom and the understanding that nothing less than a paradigm shift is needed.
The conceptual shift grew out of many conversations, the latest research and shared wisdom. Many have talked about the need for collaboration and co-ordination, but no organization or coalition has stepped forward to take on a systemic, statewide approach. Tsiporah Nephesh left her job with the Center for Nonprofit Excellence to dedicate herself to synthesizing the information while also identifying the pathways and tools needed to create the desired outcomes.
New Mexico Thrives is a movement for change in the form of a state nonprofit association. This paradigm shift runs through every aspect of New Mexico Thrives. The organization is designed to be nimble and adaptive, modelling the skills needed by today’s nonprofits. It is fiscally sponsored by the Center of Southwest Culture. New Mexico Thrives advocates for the New Mexico nonprofit sector as a whole, while recognizing the unique contributions of individual organizations. New Mexico Thrives helps nonprofits to rise beyond fears and divisive issues to work together to create positive, sustainable change for New Mexico.
New Mexico Thrives is ready to become a leader in the nonprofit sector.
